Previously, Barnett worked on several European MUDs in the late 90s, including Terris on AOL (which later became Legends of Terris)[1] and its successor Legends of Cosrin[2] before creating the fantasy realm of the Kingdom of Heroes[3]. Terris launched on AOL in the UK in late 1995, and in the US on June 26, 1996. Terris was AOL’s “first real interactive game”[4] and had its own keyword: TERRIS. He is currently the Creative Director for Mythic Entertainment in Fairfax, VA. He oversaw the design of the MMORPG Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning under the direction of CEO Mark Jacobs and producer Jeff Hickman.[5] Paul regularly gives interviews on behalf of Mythic and EA [6] at events such as E3, Penny Arcade Expo, Comic-Con International and Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, and also to MTV[7], G4, GameSpy[8], PC Gamer, Joystiq, and Ten Ton Hammer[9]. In February 2008, Paul Barnett gave a talk at the European LIFT 08 conference. This talk was the highest watched video of the show gaining over 50,000 views within 48 hours as listed on LIFT star videos. His talks also received coverage in business media.[10] BusinessWeek writer Matt Vella described it as "one of the most non-geek accessible I’ve ever heard" and praised its accomplishment of "smartly analogiz[ing] the games industry to both films and Las Vegas without being heavy handed."[10] During a trip to EA Mythic by members of Blue Öyster Cult, the visiting members co-wrote and recorded a song with members of the Warhammer team, including Paul Barnett.[11] Paul was invited to Penny Arcade Expo East 2010, to speak on a panel regarding the MMORPG industry and its future.
