With Heathfield, its Junior school, it offers a broad-based education for pupils aged between 3 and 18 years, with boarding from the age of 11. Rishworth School was founded and endowed by John Wheelwright in 1724 and established in a modest building which is now the Chapel. Today the School extends over 130 acres (0.53 km2) with a wide range of buildings developed to accommodate increasing numbers of pupils. The School is a founder member of the Society of Headmasters of Independent Schools, established in 1951 with the blessing of the Headmasters' Conference to preserve high standards in those schools privileged to be its members.
