The England and South Africa teams for their Test match at Twickenham. The 1912–13 South Africa rugby union tour was a collection of friendly rugby union games undertaken by the South Africa national rugby union team against England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and France. The tour also took in several matches against British and Irish club, county and invitational teams. This was the second South African tour of the Northern Hemisphere, after the very successful 1906 tour. Although not managing to win all the matches on the tour, the Springboks managed to win all five test matches against international opposition. Billy Millar was the tour captain even though he was the last person chosen for the tour and was not the selectors' choice of captain, but they were overruled by the South African Rugby Board.[1] Millar did have the advantage of being one of the few players to have toured Britain in the previous test, but was seen by the hosts as a fiery character and was not as popular with the players or fans as the 1906's tour captain, Paul Roos.[2] The other two members of the squad to have played in the 1906 tour were vice-captain Fred 'Uncle' Dobbin and Doug Morkel. In the touring party were two sets of brothers; Richard, Freddie and John Luyt and Gerhard and Jack Morkel.[2] Contents 1 Results 2 Touring party 2.1 Full Back 2.2 Three-Quarters 2.3 Half-Backs 2.4 Forwards 3 The matches 3.1 Monmouthshire 3.2 Glamorgan 3.3 Llanelli 3.4 Newport 3.5 Scotland 3.6 Ireland 3.7 Wales 3.8 Neath 3.9 Cardiff 3.10 Swansea 3.11 England 3.12 France 4 Bibliography 5 References Results Date Opponent Location Result Score Match 1 1912 Somerset XV Bath Won 24-3 Match 2 1912 Devon XV Exeter Won 8-0 Match 3 October 10, 1912 Cornwall XV Redruth Won 15-6 Match 4 October 12, 1912 Monmouthshire Recreation Ground, Pontypool Won 16-0 Match 5 October 17, 1912 Glamorgan XV Cardiff Arms Park, Cardiff Won 35-3 Match 6 October 19, 1912 Llanelli RFC Stradey Park, Llanelli Won 8-7 Match 7 October 24, 1912 Newport RFC Rodney Parade, Newport Lost 3-9 Match 8 1912 London XV Blackheath Won 12-8 Match 9 1912 United Services Portsmouth Won 18-16 Match 10 1912 East Midlands XV Northampton Won 14-5 Match 11 1912 Oxford University RFC Oxford Won 6-0 Match 12 1912 Midland Counties XV Leicester Won 25-3 Match 13 1912 Cambridge University R.U.F.C.
